“In The Cycle” is an interactive narrative game. Its core inspiration is a reflection on the mutual influence between contemporary technology and humanit’s, as well as a response to the recent controversies caused by the proliferation of generative AI images on social media.

I aim to propose a perspective: technological development is built upon humanity, while at the same time, humanity resists and counterbalances it, causing it to continually collapse— ultimately forming a cycle.

In this era of rapid technological advancement, when everything in life changes too quickly, some people, out of fear, begin to resist and refuse to face technology. At times, we may also unconsciously find ourselves indulging in a sense of nostalgia, using it as a temporary escape from the overwhelming changes of modern life. Yet eventually, we may once again pursue technological progress.
What we often forget, however, is that the origin of all this lies in the multifaceted nature of humanity itself, continually guiding us to re-examine what it is humanity.

The game’s world is set in a near future, where advancements in AI personification technology have made the distinction between humans and AI nearly indiscernible. To preserve human subjectivity, society has established the system of the “Reverse Turing Test” (such as CAPTCHAs). All citizens are required to undergo the test.

The main character, Schreber, is an officer tasked with administering these tests. His duty is to determine whether those being tested are “too stable,” thereby identifying if they are in fact AI attempting to replace humans.

As the story unfolds, the daily cycle of testing begins to shift. At the same time, society outside grows increasingly unstable. Schreber himself gradually comes under the scrutiny of the system. Only to discover, in the end, that he is merely one small cog in the wheel of this cycle.
